  • Consultants are paid to give advice, share their expertise and recommend a certain course of action. There is a great application for consulting practices, but it's not coaching. Put simply, at the end of a consulting engagement, the client should feel that the consultant is the genius. When the client leaves a coaching session, they leave feeling they are the genius.

Therapists often focus on 'fixing' something from the past or addressing specific psychological issues. Coaches survey the client's whole life and deal with every aspect of life. A relationship with a therapist can be short-term, whereas coaches build relationships with clients that last for years, even decades.

A best friend is an invaluable asset but can be limited in their ability to see outside their own agenda, experience and knowledge. A qualified coach will be trained to ask the right questions and provide guidance that's independent of their own needs.

A coach focuses on the present and future. By facilitating a process of inquiry, a coach enables the client to discover answers for themselves. A coach will empower you to think and act in ways you've never before considered.
